As you might have read on my blog and instagram (@livylovestorun), this past Summer I really fell hard for running. Wow, never thought I'd say that ever. Basically, once my body got past the pain, meaning I just got stronger and my mind accepted it, running was therapeutic for me. I looked forward to getting outside, letting my mind wander and enjoying the beautiful sunshine. I enjoyed it so much I trained for a half marathon. However, in the back of my mind, I was scared for winter. In Utah, we get chilling temperatures and lots of snow. This months average has been 15 degrees. I knew that my love of running was going to have to be put on hold or I'd have to do it on a treadmill which does not compare to outdoor runs.
Well recently, the temps started to rise and it got to 34 degrees the other day, but also the sun was out. It almost felt like 45 (which is still very cold). I decided to go out and run. I knew I could always turn around if it was too much. I also realized that if I dressed warm, I'd be ok. Basically, it was one of my favorite runs yet. It might had a little bit to do with being able to go on my favorite trail. Also, once I started getting warmed up my body wasn't freezing and the cool air felt good to my lungs. I am sure all you avid runners out there are thinking, yeah duh! Well I had no idea and was plain intimidated by the freezing weather. I am so happy to know that I will be able to continue my weekly runs and may even start training for my next half sooner than expected.
