What Keeps me Motivated

We all know how difficult it can be to keep trying to lose weight especially if you have failed and tried again numerous times.  You never know if it's going to stick or if you will be able to emotionally commit to another round of cutting back the foods you love and putting in the work at the gym.  I have been there.  It's hard! However, I focus on a few things to help remind me why I am doing this and it has really helped me focus on my goals rather than my wants.  I believe weight loss is 90% emotional and 10% physical.  Anyone can move their body. Anyone can eat their vegetables, but not everyone can stick with it every single day! It really takes an emotional toll on your mind when you feel overwhelmed and stressed out with your body.

One thing that keeps me motivated is my fit bit.  I love being able to track my activity for the day.  This really pushes me to go a little longer and push a little harder.  I also love that I can compete with my friends and see how they are doing.  That for sure motivates me as well! I am not sponsored or paid to use my fit bit, I just love the product and want to share with others how great it is.  


I think every other person on the planet is motivated by this next one: Results! I want to keep going when I see my progress.  And not just progress on the scale because that isn't always going to  be correct.  I always tell people to measure because that is where the real results will come.  Take pictures too! That helps me see my body in a different way than just looking in the mirror! I am always looking at my old photos to remind myself where I started and how far I have come!
Lastly, my children.  They motivate me every single day to wake up early and work out so I can spend that time on myself.  They remind me to stay active so that I can keep up with them.  They aren't slowing down anytime soon and I find when I am more active, I have so much more energy with them. It gets trickier with their schedules, but I always make sure I find the time for myself so that I can be a better mom to them.  I think they appreciate it too.  I also want to be a good example to them about their self-esteem and being healthy.  I am constantly letting them know why I do this.  They ask me why I am sweaty or why I am eating chicken.  I tell them it's because I want to be healthy and I want to feel good.  My daughter will sometimes ask to go to the park so she can run.  It's so cute to see her run her 1/4 mile around the park and see how happy she looks as she moves her body because her mom does that.  We aren't allowed to say fat in our house simply because it's just not a nice word to use.  I don't want her thinking that about herself ever and to think of being healthy rather than being skinny.  I also try and talk to my son about this too, but he doesn't care as much...boys!  I always try to lead by example because I know that is where I will have the most impact.
